Chris Potts on architecture and strategy

8. February 2010

At the EAlumni network meeting in January, IT investment expert Chris Potts gave us an exciting picture of the new world, where the (surviving) enterprise architects will be joining with fellow business developers in architecting the enterprise, rather than just adapting IT to support the business goals.

Chris is challenging the traditional thinking: No more talk about aligning business and IT – the technology budget must be embedded in the total budget for developing the company and it’s products.

The participants of the EAlumni meeting, mostly enterprise architects, were thrilled to learn about the new game, where EA is moving out of the IT department, and the keywords are innovation, passion and power. Hear more from an inspired participant.

Later in the same week, Chris presented a ‘Scandinavian flavoured’ version of his award-winning 2-day seminar Corporate Strategy for IT , for a small VIP audience.

Based on The fruITion Strategy® , the delegates were guided on a journey through four generations of Corporate Strategy for IT: Each generation of strategy involves a change in focus and the primary role of the CIO’s team.

During two intensive days, the participants adopted a corporate strategist’s view of IT investments, rather than the technologist’s viewpoint, and experienced new and practical perspectives on how best to turn yesterday’s efficiency based strategies into today’s exploitation led ones. Read the insights and perspectives by one of the delegates.
